This little post is mostly going to be talking about dogshit AI chatbot internet drama, so if that doesn’t interest you (and why would it?), feel free to click off and carry on with your day. I call it dogshit internet drama for comedic purposes, but honestly, I’m so fucking heated over this that I’ve considered making an alt on Discord over the last couple of weeks PURELY so I can write out a scathing paragraph, post it, and get banned.

This centers around a website called JanitorAI, and its associated Discord server. They also have a subreddit, but that’s not important right now, because Reddit is a cesspit and should be ignored at all costs.

This is going to get pretty spicy, so it sure is a good thingΒ nobody knows who I am and can trace this back to me.

I initially had my Discord username here, but then I realised how many psycopaths there are on an AI gooner server and I don’t want to get doxxed by someone trying to earn a mod badge. Let’s just say that I’ve been part of the JanitorAI Discord for about six months now, and I’m going to explain to you all why the mod team are fucking insane, why Shep is a hack, and why it should all be burned to the ground. This is an opinion piece on my personal website, all of this is based on the information I have available to me, suck my ass.

In the Beginning, God (Me) created the Heavens and the Earth…

Or: What is JanitorAI, anyway?

I’m going to speedrun this boring shit, because the only people who are going to read this are people already familiar with JanitorAI anyway.

JanitorAI is an online AI chatbot service, providing a combination of an in-house large language model (LLM), bot creation features to generate AI personalities or scenarios to goon chat to, and a front-end interface to actually do the typing and reading. As mentioned above, they also have a subreddit and a Discord server with over 300,000 members (maybe 400,000 by now. It’s a fuckingΒ lotΒ is what I’m saying).

People primarily use the service to talk to anime girls (or guys) and live out their most insane fantasies, such as having a partner that loves them, or being able to actually talk to a cute goth girl instead of folding like a fucking napkin.Β

OK but where's the drama, you click-baiting cu-

I’m getting there, you ADHD-riddled, no-attention-span-having Zoomer.Β

So, I’m also part of another little Discord server, which I will not name, because I don’t want them to get inundated in case this blows up and ends up on Reddit, although that WOULD be hilarious (the ending up on Reddit, not the server getting harassed, don’t do that). This little server, funnily enough, kind of started and/or grew due to bringing people in FROM the Janitor server, specifically in the #ai-models channel, which is a channel (allegedly) dedicated to the discussion of, and help for, third-party LLMs, such as DeepSeek’s R1 and V3, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude lineup, as examples.

#ai-models is commonly inundated with people that can’t read, can’t follow instructions, don’t know how to find pinned comments or threads, and get really mad when asked to not be knuckle-dragging, room-temperature-IQ troglodytes. Despite this, several people from the other server, which I will refer to as Good Server or GS, spent a LOT of time there, helping people, writing guides, answering questions, and generally having the patience of aΒ fucking saint.

One of these people, who I will call, uh, Bingus, to protect her identity, contributed a not-insignificant number of guides, ranging from troubleshooting, setting up the third-party LLMs (referred to on Janitor as ‘proxies’), and generally being a helpful little soul. Absolutely delightful, 10/10, everyone loved her, both on Janitor and GS.

Everything changed when the Janitor Mods attacked (figuratively)

Now we get into the meat of it all. Over time, people on GS started running a little fast and loose inΒ #ai-models, being a little cheeky, if you will. This resulted in more moderator attention, never a good thing. Since people from GS were regularly the most active – since we were helping the most people,Β far more than the moderator team ever did – the mod team seemed to get it into their head that people with the tag from the GS server were the cause of all of the server’s woes.

This was later confirmed by Bingus in messages she provided, wherein moderators from the Janitor Discord explicitly said in DMs to her “Yeah we’d love to make you a mod, you’re great, but you have that tag, you know, and other mods – n-not me, but other mods – think that’s a bit of a red flag.” So they essentially confirmed that, yes, they were targeting people with the ‘GS’ tag. We got warnings, mutes and bans, when other people, doing similar if not worse, got a slap on the wrist, or straight up ignored.

Things got…tense…for a while. We actually tried to play ball, being on our best behaviour, reining each other in if we started getting a little…spicy, so to speak. But mods be who mods are, and by golly gee willikers, they’d found an enemy, and so they’re going to fucking go to war.

Fine you fucking assholes, make your own guides

This eventually reached fever pitch. Bingus and other guide-makers residing in GS had had enough, and so they removed their guides from the Janitor server – they edited the content to say that the information is now located elsewhere – in a Rentry guide, primarily – and linked to it. Seemed reasonable – they could decide to revoke their guides, it was their guides, after all.

Ah, but you see, it wasn’tΒ their guides, the guides belonged to the Beautiful and Illustrious, Everlasting and Immortal Sovereign Principality of JanitorAI. Janitor mods, suddenly realising “Oh shit, all of our most useful people are leaving because of our mismanagement, and they’re taking their knowledge with them” sprung into action, like panthers on ketamine.

Within days, a rule was announced – but not written down anywhere – that non-Janitor-approved guides are now NO LONGER allowed. Only state-sponsored, state-approved messages allowed here, bucko, and if the moderators don’t like the cut of your jib, you’re going to the fucking gulag. As such, Bingus eventually, unaware of this rule – since it wasn’t in the fucking rules – posted a link to the Rentry resource, a mod noticed and said “Nice link, shame it’s not a janitorai.com link”, and banned her from the server without a warning.

Wait, no, not like that, what the fuck

Now we get to the good part, in the same way that the ‘good part’ of the Challenger space shuttle launch is when it exploded, killing everyone on board (i.e. it’s the worst part, but arguably the most interesting).

See, the moderation team now realised “Ah, shit, we’ve lost literally the best resources this server had regarding third-party models and proxies, and now we’ve just banned people linking to external guides.” Putting their heads together, and generating an amount of power that could light up a small city for several days, they came up with an idea.

“What if we…just look at the delete logs, steal all of the content from the guides, change itΒ just enough that it’s quote-unquote legally distinct, and then just so happen to also release a state-sanctioned JanitorAI knowledge base at the same time?”

So they did. Except, mostly, for the bit about changing it. They did for some pieces, but for others, they essentially lifted it wholesale, typos and all, and dropped it into their own knowledge base, without credit, acting like this was all their content that they had come up with on their own.Β Ignoring the fucking fact that most of the mods CAME TO ASK BINGUS FOR HELP WHEN THEY HAD PROBLEMS, BECAUSE IT WAS UNIVERSALLY UNDERSTOOD THAT ANYONE WITH A GS TAG EITHER KNEW MORE THAN THE MODS, OR COULD CONTACT SOMEONE THAT DID.

Sorry, I think I blacked out for a second there. Where was I?

Oh right, JanitorAI stealing content and hoping nobody would notice

Ah, shit, you weren't supposed to notice that...

Needless to say, we were fuming. Not only did the mods decide to wave their e-dicks around for no discernible reason, not only did they ban or dive off their most useful members, not only did they target specific subsets of users based on what server tag they had, but they were so fucking incompetent about the platform that they themselves moderated that they had to steal user content without permission and modify itΒ just enough to have plausible deniability, and then re-upload it as their own guides.

The JanitorAI mod team are almost universally gutless cowards, primarily working for free on a service that is FAR outclassed by other services such as Wyvern or Chub.ai, not to mention the god-tier SillyTavern frontend. Oh yeah, and they ban you for talking about ANY OTHER AI website other than JanitorAI, as well as ban you for talking bad about JanitorAI as a platform.

Fuck you, ban this, you cowards.

The worst part is that Shep – the creator of JanitorAI and the admin on the server – is either aware this is happening and choosing to do nothing (in which case, uh-oh), or he isΒ unaware this is happening, and his mod team is just acting with complete impunity, doing whatever they want and driving away useful people from his server, and stealing user content (in which case,Β uh-oh). Those are the only two options – he either knows, or he doesn’t.

So that’s where we stand now. Most of GS has either willingly or unwillingly left the JanitorAI Discord server. Those of us that remain rarely talk, and if we do, we usually don’t answer questions. It’s turned into a circus where people who don’t know anything ask questions of other people who don’t know anything, and it’s just a big circle of “Sorry man, I dunno.”

And now for dessert

Imagine being given $3 MILLION in investment funds and fucking it up so bad that the investment firm no longer wants to be associated with you.

Update: I commented in a Reddit thread saying that guides are being stolen...

Genuinely hilarious. I can smell their fear.

They will always bring up they have 2 jobs, a wife, 2 kids and cats to take care of whenever someone tries to discuss it diplomatically and openly.

They love the clout, influence, and the way others bootlick their ass on such a large platform. But, hey, at least the head of moderators (oh sorry, they are not lead moderator. They *work* for JAI) gets paid to make the platform server look like 1984. Unlike the other moderators below them, who are working for FREE and must conceal the fact that they are blatantly scrapping and trashing community people’s labour.

It’s funny how they can’t recognise mistakes in the content and made other mistakes inside. Like, they can’t even copy shits properly. But, of course, they want to demonstrate that they are not technically challenged, so that others can kiss their ass with “You have worked so hard, please get some rest ” “I can’t imagine how much work you guys gone through.” πŸ–•

The mods walk into the room with announcements like “I am officially neutral.” “Do not be passive aggressive.” “Please end this conversation now or I will hand in Mute” because they can’t face the truth.
